Malaga in conjunction with Fresno Community Food Bank has participated for over 20 years in distributing and volunteering to serve food commodities to local and neighboring communities that are in need of food. We serve between 250 to over 300 each 3rd Wednesday of the month. To encourage healthy behaviors, Malaga offers physical programs two days per week, on Tuesday and Thursday at 6pm and 7pm and open its doors for sports, running the track, recreational activities from 8am to 9pm daily. Additional, we offer programs during the summer for youth, seniors and general population. Malaga offers special and holiday events for the community and strives to be of service and a good neighbor.
Malaga is a small town southeast of Fresno with a population of about 1000 residents and 230 households. Malaga strives to be a close net community, with a humble and low-income working population. Malaga’s residents are regularly engaged and enjoy community participation and family events. With the new Afterschool Program in place it extends and reiterates the importance of continue academic, social and physical enrichment and the likelihood that youth will reduce engagement in negative risky behaviors.
Malaga’s goal is to support our youth with local programs to broaden opportunities in a positive and strong foundation while parents are at work or in school. The afterschool program offers better alternatives for children and youth during non-school hours with a positive vision for the future and being productive citizens. Malaga’s afterschool program currently has no other source of support and relies only on donations and or will use the recreations budget from the center, however the budget for the center is low and without donations the program could be at risk.
